Truth in Society
This is an exhibition that I created with a team at university. The objective of this project was to generate a discussion about society's increasing use of surveillance.
The Exhibition
We based the exhibitions aesthetic on a security CCTV station, by doing this we could give the impression that it was a restricted area. We reinforced this idea using warning signs, wall mounted cameras, and hazard marking tape.
Monitor Videos
My main responsibility for this project was to create video content to display on the monitors set up in the exhibition. One was used to replicate a CCTV station monitor and we used the other as a screensaver to show off the fictional company logo we had developed.
We also wanted to communicate the idea that we are stuck in a loop in society from the very beginning - Birth > Work > Death. To strengthen this further each video was looped indefinitely.
Sound
We wanted our exhibition to have an interactive element within it. We achieved this by including headphones that you could use to listen to a sound loop that we were playing through them.
The point of this was to give the individual listening a sense of mystery.
Projection
Opposite the main exhibition piece was a blank wall, we decided to utilise this space by including a projection. By displaying the words "We're Watching You" it was a very direct way of showing that we view the abundance of CCTV as a negative aspect of society.
